About Shari

Shari Elkins is Certified Professional Dog Trainer-KA by the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers, Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.  She is a student in the Tellington TTouch Certification Program. By utilizing reward based training, natural dog communication, and relationship building methods Shari finds the right program to suit you and your dog(s). Shari is seasoned Dog Trainer and Behavior Consultant who consistently impresses her clients with her knowledge of canine behavior and health issues. She specializes basic through advanced companion dog training and agility and scent sports, as well as aggression and reactive behavior recovery.
Fall 2010 Shari joined fellow trainer Jane Del Re CPDT-KA to open The Canine Center for Training and Behavior.  Paul Mann, Jyl Hershman-Ross, Inka Wolter, Jess Forte & Jessica Jourdan have joined the team to provide you with comprehensive, high quality dog training and behavior services. We look forward to new programs, new locations, and continuing to help you and your canine enjoy your life together.

Shari met her primary mentor and Aggression Specialist, Lee Mannix, when she went to him for help with her dog's aggression issues in 1998.  Not only was she able to work successfully with her dog Schrodi, she became Lee's first intern. Over the last 12 years, Shari has been fortunate to study with John Rogerson (World Renowned Dog Trainer and Behaviourist) and Linda Tellington-Jones (Founder of Tellington TTouch). Shari was fortunate to work with Lee Mannix for 12 years prior to his death in 2010, including seven wonderful years as Lead Trainer &Behavior Consultant and Intern Coordinator “Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior.”

Shari enjoys teaching classes and private lessons on Behavior, Basics training, Reactive dog recovery, Canine Good Citizen, Scent Work, Hiking, Camping & Running with Dogs and other Canine Sports. Austin Community College lectures on Canine/Animal Behavior are also given once per semester. She consults with and teaches seminars for rescue groups, kennels and veterinary clinics in and around Austin. Shari's summers are now spent in the cool temperatures of the Rockies, training dogs in the mountains.

You might also come across Shari at the Animal Trustees of Austin Spay Neuter Clinic where she has been a veterinary technician for eleven years. Before working with dogs she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Physics from U.T. Austin and was a physicist on seismic research vessels for Schlumberger. Shari can be seen out and about on Town Lake with at least one if not all of her five-dog pack.
